Mariah Carey has joined the rank of stars who’ve now spoken out to defend the fact that they accepted large payments from the Gadhafi family. Mariah Carey has claimed she wasn’t aware of who was hiring her, she didn’t realize it was the Gadhafis. Carey was reportedly paid $1million by Moammar’s son, Seif Gadhafi to perform at a St.Barts party in 2008. It wasn’t only Carey though, Beyonce, Nelly Furtado, Usher and 50 Cent were also hired.
The trouble with these pay checks is that they have come from a human rights violating family. The Libyan dictator, Gadhafi is currently being investigated for war crimes, and has also been accused of ordering the 1988 bombing of Pan Am flight 103 in Scotland.
Carey has released a statement saying that she feels “horrible and embarrassed” for not being more aware of the reality of the situation.
